Latino-Voters-Millennials

Hispanic Millennials will account for nearly half (44%) of the record 27.3 million Hispanic eligible voters projected for 2016 — a share greater than that of any other racial or ethnic group of voters. But the impact of Hispanics could be limited by the fact that their voter turnout rates have lagged other groups. For about 3.2 million young Latinos, this year will be their first chance to vote in a presidential race. Those newest potential voters make up 44 percent of the Latino electorate. Black millennials are 35 percent of all black voters; Asian millennials 30 percent and white millennials 27 percent.

Immigration has been a central issue in the 2016 elections, with younger Latino voters pushing Democrats to back Obama’s executive actions that would defer deportations for millions of immigrants, to back a path to citizenship and to end accepting contributions from private companies that build and run immigrant detention facilities.
