# New State Minimum Wage Increases

### Employers get ready! Minimum wage increases will affect numerous states across the country in January 2014.

![Minimum_Wage_Increases](https://www.dashrconsulting.com/wp-content/uploads/Minimum_Wage_Increases.png)Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the current federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. But the FLSA does not supersede any state or local laws that are more favorable to employees. Therefore, if a state has a minimum wage that is higher than the federal minimum, employers subject to the state minimum wage law are obligated to pay the higher rate to employees working in that state.

#### State minimum wage changes effective December 31, 2013

- **New York**: $8.00 per hour.
  - The state minimum wage will also increase to $8.75 per hour effective December 31, 2014, and $9.00 effective December 31, 2015.

#### State minimum wage changes effective January 1, 2014

- **Arizona**: $7.90 per hour.
- **Connecticut**: $8.70 per hour.
  - The minimum wage is also scheduled to increase to $9.00 per hour on January 1, 2015.
- **Florida**: $7.93 per hour.
- **Missouri**: $7.50 per hour.
- **Montana**: $7.90 per hour.
- **New Jersey**: $8.25 per hour.
- **Ohio**: $7.95 per hour for businesses with annual gross receipts in excess of $292,000 per year.
- **Oregon**: $9.10 per hour.
- **Rhode Island**: $8.00 per hour.
- **Vermont**: $8.73 per hour.
- **Washington**: $9.32 per hour.

#### State minimum wage changes effective July 1, 2014

- **California**: $9.00 per hour.
  - The state minimum wage will increase again to $10 per hour effective January 1, 2016.
